• Texas made history on November 20 by allocating $10 million from general revenue to its new Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, purchasing $5 million in BlackRock’s IBIT ETF at around $87,000 per BTC.

The initial buy positions the state as the first in the U.S. to formally acquire Bitcoin for treasury diversification, with plans to self-custody the assets once infrastructure is finalized.

This move, authorized by Senate Bill 21 signed in June, signals Texas’s leadership in digital asset adoption amid global competition for BTC reserves.

  • Harvard University disclosed a $116 million position in BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) as of June 2025, one of the largest known Bitcoin ETF allocations by a U.S. university endowment.

The move marks a notable shift from earlier skepticism, including reports that in 2018 Harvard analysts viewed Bitcoin’s upside as limited and risks as high.

The endowment’s investment suggests increasing institutional comfort with regulated digital asset exposure through ETFs rather than holding coins directly.

Tesla’s Cybertruck is facing its sixth recall since its launch a year ago.

The recall affects 2,431 units, including certain 2024 Cybertrucks built between November 6, 2023 and July 30, 2024. A report from Tesla found that those trucks are or were equipped with a faulty drive inverter.

“If the inverter stops producing torque, the driver loses the ability to apply torque to the vehicle using the accelerator pedal resulting in a loss of propulsion, which may increase the risk of a collision,” reads Tesla’s report.

In October, Tesla recalled 27,185 Cybertrucks due to a delay in the rearview camera image that could impair driver visibility. Unlike that recall, which required an over-the-air update, Tesla will need to physically replace the recalled drive inverter, which the EV-maker said it would do free of charge.

Other Cybertruck recalls this year include one in April due to a sticky accelerator pedal, and another in June to fix potentially loose trim pieces and defective windshield wipers.

  • Meta, the parent of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, has been hit with yet another huge regulatory fine in Europe, this time over abusive practices related to Facebook Marketplace.

The European Commission announced that it would fine Meta €797.72 million — nearly $840 million — for breaching EU antitrust rules connected to how it ties its online classified ads service, Facebook Marketplace, to Facebook itself, creating “unfair trading conditions” for other providers of classifieds online.

The fine is the latest installment of a case that dates back to June 2021. In December 2022, the regulators had determined that Facebook Marketplace violated antitrust rules. Today, it’s issuing the penalty for that violation.

  • Since his release from ICE custody in June, Khalil has not once relented in speaking out against the genocide of the Palestinian people.

A US immigration judge has ordered the deportation of pro-Palestine activist Mahmoud Khalil to Algeria or Syria. In an order dated September 12, Louisiana Judge Jamee Comans leaned into Trump administration allegations that in his permanent residency application, Khalil failed to disclose his work with UNRWA and the Syria Office at the British Embassy in Beirut, along with his ties to a pro-Palestine student group at Columbia University. Comans thus denied Khalil’s application for a waiver of removability, a legal order that waives a particular ground for deportation, permitting an individual to stay in the United States, and ordered his deportation – in what her ruling states as “the interests of this country.”

  • Lying over blankets spread out on the dirt in isolation centers thatched up with mud and straw, thousands, many visibly malnourished, suffer cholera with no medical care in Sudan’s western region of Darfur.

Since the outbreak in Darfur this June, the deadly disease has infected almost 12,200 people, claiming at least 509 lives as of Wednesday, September 17, when 135 new cases and 17 deaths were reported by the General Coordination of Darfur Displaced People and Refugees.

Its spokesperson, Adam Rojal, added that the rate of spread is increasing, killing at least 48 last week, when 1,665 fresh cases were recorded, “in addition to malaria” and “malnutrition among children”.

Numbers understate the severity of the epidemic because the underdeveloped healthcare infrastructure in Darfur, already ravaged by a regional civil war in the 2000s, has completely collapsed amid the fighting between the army and the paramilitary since April 2023.

  • With slogans of “Down with Trump”, “Down with imperialist agenda”, Swaziland’s pro-democracy activists exiled in South Africa protested outside the US embassy in Pretoria on September 19, condemning the Trump-King Mswati deportation deal.

For an alleged USD 500 million, Africa’s last absolute monarch, King Mswati III, reached a deal with US President Donald Trump allowing him to deport migrants convicted of crimes to Swaziland. The first group of five deportees, none of whom were from Africa, was flown into Swaziland (renamed eSwatini by Mswati) on June 15.

The US Department of Homeland Security’s spokesperson had described the deportees – convicted of violent crimes including murder and child rape – as “so uniquely barbaric that their home countries” in Asia and Latin America “refused to take them back.”

However, in a decision condemned as “treacherous” in Swaziland, Mswati agreed to take them in, “only because he wants more money to enjoy with his children and 15 wives”, said the president of Swaziland Youth Congress (SWAYOCO), Sakhile Nxumalo, in his address to the demonstration.
