Apple is reportedly exploring a potential acquisition of Perplexity AI, a fast-growing startup known for its conversational AI search engine.

According to Bloomberg, internal discussions have taken place between Apple’s top executives, including M&A head Adrian Perica, services chief Eddy Cue, and the company’s AI leadership team.

Perplexity was recently valued at $14 billion, which would make this Apple’s largest-ever acquisition—surpassing its $3 billion Beats deal in 2014.

The move comes as Apple faces mounting pressure to advance in generative AI, especially with its lucrative $20 billion annual Google search deal under regulatory threat.

Perplexity’s product is seen as a major upgrade over Siri and could serve as either an integration partner for Safari or even a direct replacement for key search features.

However, Apple isn’t the only one eyeing Perplexity. Samsung is reportedly close to securing its own deal, and Meta also considered an acquisition before backing out.
