  • In May 1884, showman P.T. Barnum turned doubt into spectacle — marching 21 elephants, led by the legendary Jumbo, across the brand-new Brooklyn Bridge.

The stunt wasn’t just circus flair. After rumors of collapse rattled New Yorkers, Barnum’s herd became living proof of the bridge’s strength. That unforgettable parade across the East River cemented the bridge as both an engineering marvel and a symbol of city pride.

  • A New York pizza shop has captured hearts online after responding to a customer’s heartfelt birthday request with kindness and a mountain of black olives!

In a now-viral Reddit post, a man named Jason shared the note he left with his pizza order. He admitted he was feeling down on his birthday — not even his family had reached out — but lightened the mood by declaring his deep love for black olives, asking for “as many as humanly possible.”

Norbert’s Pizza in Brooklyn didn’t just deliver — they overdelivered. The pizza arrived absolutely covered in black olives, with an extra side container for good measure.

A simple act, a generous response — and a reminder of how even small gestures can make a big difference.

  • Sean "Diddy" Combs has been denied bail and will remain behind bars following Wednesday's split verdict. His sentencing is set for Oct. 3.

After a jury acquitted Combs on his most serious charges — sex trafficking and racketeering — his lawyer argued that the musician should be released on bail until his sentencing date.

"His family is here and could sign a bond," Diddy's lawyer said. "He should be released today."

The judge ultimately denied bail due to Combs being found guilty on two counts of transporting people for prostitution.

"Even if the defendant was solely required to show that he is not a danger to the community, he could not meet that burden," said Judge Arun Subramanian. "Prior to trial, the court denied bail and sees no reason to reverse that now."

Combs will remain in custody at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center, where he has been since his arrest on Sept. 16, 2024, until his sentencing.

  • A study published in the journal Earth’s Future estimates that the combined 1.68 trillion pounds of New York City’s skyline is causing its clay-rich ground to sink by about two millimeters per year.

According to USGS geophysicist Tom Parsons and his team, areas with softer soils—such as Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens are subsiding at up to twice that rate.

To put this into context, the sinking amounts to about 20 millimeters, or three-quarters of an inch, over a decade. This gradual pace means any significant effects would emerge slowly over many decades, allowing engineers sufficient time to respond and adapt.

  • Nestled between an elementary school and a public library in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint neighborhood sits a new kind of “luxury” coworking space.

Dubbed the Chat Haus, this space has many of the elements you’d find in a traditional coworking office: people hammering away at their computer keyboards, another person taking a phone call, someone else pausing by their computer to take a sip of coffee.

There is, however, one key difference: Chat Haus is a coworking space for AI chatbots, and everything — including the people — is made out of cardboard.

More specifically, the Chat Haus is an art exhibit by Brooklyn artist Nim Ben-Reuven.

It houses a handful of cardboard robots working away at their computers through movements controlled by small motors. There is a sign that offers desk space for “only” $1,999 a month and another that labels the space as “A luxury co-working space for chatbots.”
