A friendly hitchhiking robot learned that human kindness has its limits. After successfully hitchhiking more than 10,000 kilometers across Canada, Germany, and the Netherlands, HitchBOT - a $1,000 social experiment built from household items - was found dismembered in Philadelphia, just two weeks into its American journey⁠ ⁠ The child-sized robot attended weddings, football games, danced at festivals, visited castles, and even toured with a heavy metal band during its international adventures. Equipped with GPS, basic conversation abilities, and Wikipedia knowledge, HitchBOT charmed its way through multiple countries while documenting its journey through random photos every 20 minutes.⁠ ⁠ However, just two weeks into its American journey, after visiting Boston's Fenway Park and New York's Times Square, HitchBOT was found decapitated and dismembered on Philadelphia's historic Elfreth's Alley.
